Joint instability occurs when ligaments and other connective tissues do not provide enough passive support. This forces muscles to compensate for stability, which can lead to fatigue and inconsistent joint control. When muscular support is overwhelmed, joints may partially sublux, feel like they are “slipping,” or move in ways that feel unsafe even without a full dislocation.
