Hypermobility can affect much more than the joints. While joint pain and instability are common, many people also experience symptoms involving other body systems. Common symptoms of hypermobility include:

  • Joint pain and instability
  • Frequent sprains, strains, subluxations (partial dislocations), or dislocations
  • Chronic pain
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Dizziness and symptoms of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS)
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms such as reflux, bloating, constipation, or diarrhea
  • Easy bruising
  • Poor proprioception (body awareness), clumsiness, and coordination problems

Not everyone with joint hypermobility develops symptoms. However, when hypermobility is associated with pain, instability, or symptoms affecting multiple body systems, it may be part of a condition such as Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) or hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS).
