Hypermobility means that one or more joints move beyond the normal range of motion. It is a common trait and, by itself, is not a medical condition. Many people with hypermobility never develop symptoms and may even have advantages in activities such as dance, gymnastics, or yoga.
For others, however, hypermobility can lead to joint instability, pain, recurrent sprains or dislocations, fatigue, and symptoms affecting other body systems. When joint hypermobility is associated with symptoms or complications, it may be part of a condition such as Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD), hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) or another connective tissue disorder.
